Kazushige Nitta graduated from Dokkyo University with a B.A. in economics in 1987 before coming to the United States and enrolling at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In the same year, he won two prestigious awards presented by The New York Society of Illustrators Scholarship Competition, and The Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. In 1992 he was honored with both the New York Society of Illustrators International Competition Advertising Award and Book Award. Within months after graduating SVA, Kazu landed his first of several children's book assignments at Simon & Schuster. A short time later he was called upon to illustrate Dr. Theodore Geisel's first posthumous book at Random House called "My Many Colored Days".
